Hello and welcome to the 2nd Annual Conquer the Grill BBQ contest presented by Shell. The contest will be held in Coudersport, PA. The contest is an Official Sanctioned Event of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). It will be held at the Coudersport Jr/Sr High School in conjunction with the God's Country Marathon finish line festivities. This event is being sponsored by the Potter County Visitors Association (PCVA).
Our event has been proclaimed an official state championship event for Pennsylvania by Governor Tom Wolf!
All teams are eligible to participate in the competition. You do not need to be a member of KCBS.
Below is the basic information required to register for the event. Further information will be forth coming. Once you are registered, you will receive a confirmation and a participant packet.
6:00 AM - 12 Noon - BBQ Competitor Load-in time
12 Noon - 5:00 PM - BBQ Competitor Set up and Meat Inspection
5:00 PM - BBQ Cooks Meeting - Cooking can begin after meeting.
11:00 PM - 7:00 AM - Quiet Hours
9:00 AM to 10:30 Am - Live Music (Awards Tent)
11:00 AM - BBQ Judges Meeting (Judges Tent)
11:40 AM - BBQ Judges in Place (Judges Tent)
12:00 PM - Live Music (Awards Tent)
11:55 AM - Chicken Category is turned in and judging begins
12:25 PM - Pork Rib Category is turned in and judging begins
12:55 PM - Pork Category is turned in and judging begins
1:25 PM - Brisket Category is turned in and judging begins
3:00 PM - Conquer the Grill Barbeque Award Ceremony (Awards Tent)
5:00 PM - Post- Race/BBQ Party! - Live Music (To Be Determined)

2nd place: $150.00

Teams may register online or by downloading the registration form.
Do I have to be a member of KCBS to enter my team? No, the competition is open to everyone.
How much does it cost to enter my team? Team entry fee is $225.
How many people can be on my team? As many as you want! Each team must have a chief cook and can have as many assistants as desired.
What kinds of meat will my team need to cook? There are four KCBS meat categories:
Is meat provided or does my team need to provide it? Your team must provide your own meat. Meat will be inspected by the KCBS-approved meat inspector.
What heat sources can I use? Fires must be of wood, wood pellets or charcoal. Gas and electric heat sources are not permitted.
Does my BBQ have to be prepared in the traditional Kansas City style? Nope! Make it the way you like it!
How many teams will be competing? Team registration is ongoing. It will be capped at 25 teams.
Who will be judging the competition? Our judging team consists of certified KCBS BBQ judges and, based on the number of teams that enter, may include uncertified judges trained by KCBS certified judges prior to judging.
What can my team win? You have opportunities to win cash prizes by being named Grand Champion ($500), Reserve Champion ($250), and by placing in the top 5 in any or all of the 4 meat categories (chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.) 1st in each category wins $200; 2nd wins $150; 3rd wins $100; 4th wins $75; 5th wins $50.
Will there be BBQ food available for sale to the public? Yes! 4 of the teams competing will be vending their food to the public: E & D Prok Pullers, Behind BBQ, Mobile Fresca and Hawkeye BBQ.
