Historical Sites

Potter County is located in the north central part of the Commonwealth known as the Pennsylvania Wilds. Our central location on the PA/NY border is ideal for a variety of day trips.

Tioga County, to the east, is home of the famous Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. The 50 mile gorge offers some of the most spectacular views of the Pine Creek Valley, which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails, most notably, the Pine Creek Rail-Trail.

Williamsport in Lycoming County, to the southeast, is best known as the home of Little League Baseball and welcomes the world each year to the Little League World Series.

To the south is Clinton County. Located along the picturesque West Branch Susquehanna, the city of Lock Haven offers a historic backdrop to a revitalized Main Street business district and is home to the Piper Aviation Museum and Lock Haven University. Take in a great view and watch the occasional hang-glider take off from Hyner View State Park.

To the southwest is beautiful Cameron County. Its three state parks, including Sizerville State Park, offer outstanding scenery, miles of trails and waterways, endless outdoor recreation possibilities, along with numerous wildlife species, including Pennsylvania's elk herd and bald eagles.  From there, take a quick drive to Benezette and visit with the elk at the Elk Country Visitors Center.

McKean County, to the west, borders the Allegheny National Forest. Be sure to check out the iconic Zippo/Case Museum in Bradford and Kinzua Bridge State Park and the Kinzua Skywalk near Mt. Jewett. The Kinzua Sky Walk offers a unique glimpse into the bridge's history revealing the ingenuity, dedication and determination of its designers and builders.  Be sure to visit the World War II Museum in Eldred, too.

To the northwest, across the New York State border, is Cattaraugus County, NY. The largest city is Olean, featuring nearby attractions such as Allegany State Park, Seneca-Allegany Casino & Rock City Park.

Directly north of Potter County, is Allegany County, NY. A must stop is in the small town of Wellsville at a little diner called The Texas Hot.  The Texas Hot literally put Wellsville on the map as a regional landmark.  Then head over to Corning and check out the famous Corning Museum of Glass.
